Homelessness

We buy, cook, and deliver dinners to Hope for Home Homeless Services Center once a month and distribute food at God’s Pantry Distribution Center in Pomona. We also participate in Lions Multiple District Four food collection for needy families; organized clothing donations for needy families; provide Easter baskets for House of Ruth domestic violence center; and provided non-perishable food to Inland Valley Hope Partners food pantry.

Literacy

We “Roar for Reading”, by purchasing, sorting, and distributing new books to First Graders in Pomona Unified School District. Our club sponsors 5 Little Free Libraries around Pomona (books are free to take) and we give away used books Thursday evenings at Pomona Band Concerts in the Park. Additionally, we provide Mini-Grants to Pomona Unified school teachers for classroom enrichment.

The Environment

We serve on Pomona Beautification Day through various community projects and sponsored three interactive children’s activities at the Lopez Urban Farm: mud kitchen, water wall, and sound wall. We participate in Pomona’s Promise, a collective impact initiative to support safe neighborhoods, strong families, and a healthy quality of life.

Vision and Hearing

We are enthusiastic supporters of Lions Club International’s Recycled Eyeglasses and Hearing Aid Program. You can donate your used eyeglasses at the Pomona Public Library, select businesses, schools, churches and wherever Lions gather. We provide vision exams and glasses for identified Pomona Unified School District students. We also co-host CA Lions Friends in Sight vision screenings for persons of all ages.

Helping Hands

Thanksgiving:

Each year, Pomona Host Lions purchase food items such as canned beans and corn, stuffing, gravy, rolls, macaroni, potatoes and pies and create Thanksgiving boxes for needy families so they too can enjoy a happy Thanksgiving.

Military Bags:

We participate in the Lions' District 4-L4 project of providing care bags for our military who are unable to be at home with their families. These bags show our support of our military and our gratitude for their service. The care bags contain a variety of items such as playing cards, beef jerky, lip balm, beanies and hygiene items.

Providing toys for the new Pediatric Unit at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Toys and a play kitchen were purchased by the Pomona Host Lions Club with the support of a California Lions Foundation matching grant. In addition to all the toys in the Pediatric Unit's playroom, each young patient will have the comfort of a stuffed lion to take home. There are more pictures from this project in our gallery.
